I was a student at Rockingham Montessori school for almost 11 years, from year 1 to year 10. Do not send your children to this school. In its earlier days, Montessori did once have a decent environment to learn in, though the minute I went into high school this all seemed to crumble. I was being taught the same thing I was taught in year 7 in year 10 and since moving schools I can really see and put into perspective how Montessori failed me in my education as I'm so far behind so many others in my year. There is an unruly amount of vaping that happens in the school bathrooms, a terrible amount of people that do nothing but sit on their phones all day no learning anything, people who skip their classes, yet those same people can somehow graduate school? that's because there is no proper tests or the usage of WACE points to see where the student is at academically. On top of that, the teachers have no way of knowing how to deal with these issues, most don't even have an educational degree! they simply get you to take a course, and done! you can teach! Vanessa (the principle) prides herself in saying that there is no such thing as bullying at Rockingham Montessori school, and said that to me and my family after we consistently complained of the bullying I was enduring. The teachers never helped, only told me to "sort it out myself" since that's the "Montessori way". I have some irreversible trauma and issues from the bullying I experienced for almost 6 years that could have easily been prevented if the teachers and principle did more to step in and help. Lastly, the consistent statement "the Montessori environment may not suit you or your child" is wrong. Half of these things are because of the lack of structure in just this school environment. I have experienced and seen a well working Montessori environment, and this school is not one of them. This school is hands down awful and I would 100% recommend to reconsider sending your children here, if you plan to do so. The school doesn't priorities or care about anything but the money you give them.
