I am extremely disappointed with Head Start Early Learning, Carnegie. Our experience over the past few days has been very upsetting, especially in the way concerns were handled by both the educators and the management. My daughter went to childcare wearing a simple sleeveless frock, and her class teacher spoke to her in a very rude and inappropriate manner, telling her she “can’t wear this dress.” When my husband asked why, the explanation kept changing. First, the educator said she couldn’t be photographed that day because of the dress. Later, when I called management to clarify, they said it was because of “sun smart” rules. We respect sun safety that has never been an issue but the problem was the way the educator communicated with my child and the completely different explanation given earlier. What hurt the most was how much they had spoken to my daughter about it. The next morning, while getting dressed, she kept pleading! Mom, my teacher told me I can’t wear sleeveless, and the tone of fear in her voice was heartbreaking. No child should feel scared or ashamed because of something so small. When we tried to address this with the manager, Kannika, the experience was even worse. She was rude, argumentative, and completely dismissive of our concerns. Instead of listening, she kept interrupting and refused to acknowledge that the educator had communicated wrongly with our child. Not once did she show empathy or concern as a manager or as someone responsible for children’s wellbeing. Because of the lack of professionalism, the defensive attitude, and the way my daughter was made to feel, we had no choice but to discontinue her care immediately. As parents, we expect open communication, respect, and genuine concern none of which we received here
